A Disney Photography Tip

When at Disney World, look for people dressed like this:

Disney Photographers. They are your friends.

For one thing, they know a lot. Like, they can tell you how to cut across the Magic Kingdom in the middle of a parade without losing your life. They'll know where to find the funnel cake. They can answer many of life's deeper questions.

Mostly, though, they come in really handy when you want a photo. They walk around with crazy camera equipment offering to take photos of people in strategic places all over the parks. When they take your picture with their cameras, the images are linked to a card which they will give you. You can later access the images online and order any prints that you want. That's handy if you forget to charge your camera battery (Not that I've ever done that. Ahem.), don't have a good camera, or just don't want to be bothered with being the photographer.

However, if you do have a camera, any camera at all, and you want to be included in a photo, go find one of the Disney photogs. They will happily take a photo for you using your camera. For free. Totally free, no strings attached. Keep in mind that they aren't going to try to figure out how to use your camera, so you want to make sure it's all set when you hand it to them. Still, it's an easy, stress-free way to make sure you get a few family photos while roaming the House of Mouse.

These guys (and gals) are the only reason I am in any photos from our trips. Seriously, I beg everyone I know who goes to offer to let a mommy in the picture if she sees one taking a photo of her gang. I can assure you that the smile you get awarded is worth the 3 second stop on your touring plan.

True story: I was pushing Baby Girl in the stroller (she was sleeping) while the boys were on Pirates with Mr. MOTH. I saw a young family in front of Splash Mountain and the mom was (naturally) taking the picture. I offered to let her be in it and she got very excited. The little boy was maybe 3 and wasn't looking at me (or the camera) so I asked his name. They were very Italian (and GORGEOUS) and his name was well, like Italian to me. I stared for a second and then said, "Hey sweetheart, over here!" His parents laughed and he looked. Perfect photo!

These photographers make a world of difference to documenting your trip! In 2005 they didn't have it set up this way and I have very few family pics. In 2010 we went and we have tons of great family shots and special effects pictures (tinker belle in the girls' hands and such). I love these guys!

Just curious, as I purchased a DSLR camera last summer and we are heading to Disney in 2 months.....how do you manage your camera at the parks? Is it just easier to take a point-and-shoot that you can stash in a purse or backpack? I'm so protective of my camera since it was an expensive purchase for me. I'm worried about lugging it around the parks and what to do with it when we ride. Any tips?
