Day Two Hundred Fifty-Nine
I have officially reached the point where our response to COVID-19 is breaking my brain.
On one hand, we have restaurants still open. Because why not? We all know food chases away viruses. OR NOT.
On the other hand, we have schools still open. This one actually makes sense to me because the data says that schools are mostly managing to prevent spread. It's not perfect and we've already established that I prefer my kids faaaaaaar away from the imperfect, but still. I get it. I can understand the data.
And then we have the girls' dance studio. It's closed this week. But, it's not closed because there was spread or because they can't figure out how to enforce mask-wearing and social distancing. Nope. It's closed because the owners were all, "Yeah, so we don't trust y'all to stay apart during Thanksgiving and you are NOT bringing that drama here."
For real.
They preventively decided to go remote for a few weeks because they knew people would be irresponsible and gather together for Thanksgiving. They were right, by the way, because there have been some positive cases amongst some of the families who go to the studio. But those positive cases haven't impacted any of the other dance families because we're all doing the Zoom thing for classes. It's ... magical.
I mean, it's almost as if it's possible to look at the data and figure out how to reduce risk.
Nearly nine months of this. We've had nine months of practice and yet still can only sometimes figure out how to use the data to make smart decisions.
Ugh.
