Has Anyone Seen My Patience? It Seems to be Missing.

As the clock strikes midnight, the metamorphosis begins. Just as Cinderella's fairytale *poofed* into a sadness and dread, my love for snow is replaced by hatred. The very second February turns to March, my glee over snowflakes, my adoration of ice, my joyous celebration of blizzards, it all falls away. Instead of dreaming of playing in the snow, I instantly begin to dream of playing in the dirt.

I've tried to be a little more patient this year than most. While normally I'd be outside poking at the ground in search of some early perennials, I know that the foot or so of snow that is still on the ground needs to hang out just a little bit longer. If it all melted too quickly, we would have epic flooding all over the place. It's better that it has been a slow melt. I know that, but yet when I saw this today, I completely lost my mind:

Hostas! Green! Poking! Out! Of! The! Ground!

People, I think spring might actually happen this year!

As I sat staring at the tiny little Hostas poking their way out of the damp soil in the McDonald's drive thru, visions of a pond, an outdoor fireplace, a patio, a deck, perennials, annuals, vegetables, stone walls, containers, vines, trees, shrubs . . . does anybody want to buy a kidney? Or two? Because I don't really know how I'm going to pay for all of it, but I have EPIC plans for the back yard this year.

EPIC.

(Consider this a warning: once The Big Dig begins, it'll probably be all anybody around here talks about.)

The only problem is that there is a heck of a lot more snow in our yard than there is in the McDonald's drive thru. It might be a while before I get to start ripping out sod.

A long while.

I'm the same--once March hits, I just want SPRING! NOW! Before I HURT someone! Thankfully, 90% of our snow vanished within a week of it falling. All that remains are snowbanks from the plows and grass. Nasty, hideous, brown grass.

I have hope. A sliver, but it's there.

:)

I have hope too! This year is the first in the three we've been in the house that I can't wait to get outside and start digging. I attribute that to the fact that we've finally got the bathroom remodel finished, but regardless: So with you! Can't wait to see what you do with that big yard of yours!

You crack me up! I don't have patience for spring either. And my Youngest Boy is beside himself asking when we'll get to go to the playground. Please, please, let it happen soon!!

@The Mommy--I looked at photos from this week last year. Alexis and I were stopping at a playground daily after school. She was either not wearing a jacket at all, or wearing a lightweight spring one. The whole thing made me kinda teary. I. WANT. WARM. WEATHER. NOW.

I'm SO with you. March=spring and March=get the heck out of here STUPID old man winter.

We are really dealing with snow, but the endless days of it being too cold to play outside are driving me batty.

Me too! I'm anxious to garden with who knows what money too!

It's 68 degrees here today. Want to visit and plant *my* yard? :-D

I think my dog is more excited than even I am. She was out rolling around in the sunshine on the grass (more like muddy swamp) half the day today. Our snow has melted and I am eager for spring too. But we didn't get the Snowmaggedon like you did.

Just shut it. It'll be a month AT LEAST before our snow melts. If all I had was a foot in my yard I'd be rejoicing. I was just crying inside today for all the poor crocus that must be slowly dying under the snow. And the daffodils that won't be seen. Oh, the injustice.

We haven't been too far over average on snowfall this year, but it has been just plain cold for most of this winter! I looked at pictures from January of 2009 and the kids were outside riding their bikes in nothing but long sleeves. This year? No way! I was finally able to take the girls for a walk this past week, and while there is green starting to poke through the ground, there is still plenty of snow piled up in the shade and a cool breeze that says, "Don't get your hopes up!" Enough already!

I KNOW!!! I am so excited for spring I can hardly stand it! Unfortunately, we still have a big mud bowl in our front and back yard and we have to plant grass, but STILL!!! SPRING!!!!
