I'm Not Counting Them All, But OH CHRISTMAS TREE!
I still haven't figure out what counts as a Christmas tree and what doesn't, but a very wise person mentioned that the more rules I create to *not* count things, the less crazy I seem when I say how many trees I have. Genius, no?
In that vein, here are some of the *not* trees that are around these parts.
This little guy is in our half bath. It's a *not* tree since it doesn't have any lights. It's cute, though.
This one does have lights and even an angel on top, but it's tiny. Therefore, a *not* tree. It's currently sitting in the "apartment" that Alexis built for our Elf on the Shelf.
Don't ask.
I don't understand either.
These five little guys are wee and don't have lights. *Not* trees!
Obviously, I have a thing for tinsel trees. Mostly I just love anything tacky. Like this *not* tree.
The silver fiber optic tinsel tree resides in the Man Cave, which is where you can also find a couple of little trees that have been around for years and years.
They're only about 8" tall, so they're definitely *not* trees.
I haven't decided about the ladder and the two tinsel trees that go with it.
Which leads me to other things that are *maybe* trees. I suppose.
The Nightmare Before Christmas tree was a fantastic idea when I first had it, but then all of the ornaments that I know I saw all over the place vanished. I need to start lurking on ebay so I can fill it in a bit more.
I'm too chicken to put lights on it because I think they might ruin the fluffy pink tinsel, so that particular tree gets a pass on the "must have lights" rule.
Because NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS OMG.
This tinsel tree didn't get a pass, mostly because the bright green tinsel pieces definitely can handle the heat from the vintage bubble lights.
There are a few other trees (definitely trees) that are a bit sparse, but still pretty. For example, this tree in the Man Cave will some day be a Pittsburgh Penguins tree.
The Winnie the Pooh tree is also a hot mess.
I need to strip the whole thing and replace the burnt out lights and do something about the ornaments. A bunch have broken and the rest make me nervous. It's time to double-secure them or something.
Another sparse tree is sparse because I literally just started it this Christmas. As in Christmas Day.
In about ten years, it will be a magnificent sock monkey tree. For now, it's super cute.
I know it will take about ten years because it took about that for this tree to completely fill up to the point that I'm officially considering it done. It's the Boyd's Bears tree.
Mila's tree should also be full in about ten years.
She gained a handful of ornaments this year, including three sock monkeys (which is how I decided I need an entire sock monkey tree), an adorable little engraved baby shoe, and a hot air balloon.
Alexis also added a few ornaments to her tree this year. Her "something she likes" ornaments were an Elf on the Shelf ornament and Elvis. Of course.
We aren't going to look too closely at the Barbie tree that resides in the playroom because Alexis decided to play with some of the Barbies that were used to decorate it. I will fix it next year. I'm done for this year.
Mostly I'm done because this was the year I finally fixed up the snowman tree. It will get more snowman ornaments as time goes on, but tightening up the color scheme an putting new lights on it made a HUGE difference.
The new color scheme makes me happy.
And we're nearly done. There's just a few more to list, including this little guy.
The rainbow tree.
And the two main trees. The biggest of all of the trees is the red/white/silver/snowflake tree in the family room.
It has a *lot* of ornaments on it and makes my OCD side very happy.
It's exact opposite is one of the trees in the dining room. It's the "everything else" tree which houses all of the homemade ornaments the girls have brought home from school/daycare, my motion ornaments, souvenirs, etc.
This is the tree I could spend hours looking at. It has ornaments representing every pet we've had, places we've been, and things we've done together. For example, every year Alexis and I go to make blown glass ornaments.
I have promised Alexis that she can have her blown glass ornaments when she grows up, but I'm already all sad about that.
I love each one a little bit more than than the last.
But some of them are hers. So.
At least now I know not to make the same deal with Mila.
You guys, I think maybe I have a lot of Christmas trees. The good news is that I have windows for four more, though!

I LOVE all these trees! I think it is very AWESOME!! But, because I'm nosy - what do you do with all these trees in the off season? Do you put them away fully decorated? Or, do take all the ornaments off them and start anew each year? Inquiring minds need to know.
@Heather -- The red/white/snowflake tree gets torn apart because it's too big to move without having everything crash. Everything else stays fully decorated and goes into a storage room in our basement. They actually take up less space fully decorated, although they can't be stacked as nicely as they could be if they were torn apart.
I bet your house is something to see from the outside. A beautifully lit tree in (almost) every window!
Gorgeous! I love the red/silver/white/snowflake tree! You could sell tickets and open your home for holiday walk throughs.
That makes sense to store most of them decorated. Are you one of those people who is out early the day after Christmas scouring the sales on ornaments and holiday decor?
i love, love, love you and all your NOTtrees. they are fabulous. as are you.
be careful tomorrow, i may steal a bear ornament tomorrow night in a drunken stupor. heh.
also, i am pretty sure that reindeer with the five little NOTtrees is a wine glass identifying thingy holder. i almost bought him. we need to go back for his big brother, the card holder!
@ann -- Nope! I don't venture out until things are at least 75% off. That's part of why it takes me so long to fill a tree, but it's worth it to save a buck or ten.
