Here's To A Less Drippy Spring
I once spent spring working at a company on the corner of Peachtree Lane and Peachtree Expressway. It was a few miles from Peachtree Road and Peachtree Lane. And HEY! did you know all of the roads in Atlanta are named "Peachtree" something or other?
It's true.
It was HUGELY confusing trying to figure out how to get around. I would ask people for directions and then wait to see how many times they would use "Peachtree" in a sentence. It would have been funny if it hadn't been so frustrating.
Not helping the situation was the fact that for the first time in my life, I was getting hammered by seasonal allergies. I had no idea I was allergic to anything, but between the itchy, watering eyes and miserable congestion, I realized I was either allergic to roads named "Peachtree" or the actual peach trees that lined every street, alley, and expressway. They were absolutely stunning while in full bloom, but they made me so miserable.
I was really glad to finish up that project and go back to Pittsburgh, where every road seems to have "Washington" in its name. I'm not allergic to Washingtons. In fact, feel free to send me a few.
That spring in Atlanta was the end of my seasonal allergy battles...right up until Alexis was born. Why didn't anyone warn me that could happen, by the way? WHY does having a baby lead to a change in your body that causes you to suddenly have wicked seasonal allergies? Every spring and fall since Alexis was born have been like those few months in Atlanta. Miserable congestion is on its way. URGH.
I usually spend spring in denial. Surely I was imagining things last year when I couldn't go outside without wanting to crawl up in a ball of misery!
I work through all of the fun spring preparation things like clearing the debris from the garden, moving a few plants, mulching, edging, pruning, and taking the containers out of the garage. About halfway through, the misery sets in. I completely block out all intelligent thought and just keep on suffering. It's not until the congestion starts to clear on its own that it occurs to me OH, HAI. SEASONAL ALLERGIES. CAN FIX THAT.
This year, however, is different. This year I'm getting proactive. Thanks to BlogHer and Similasan, I got some Similasan Nasal Allergy Relief to try out. It's a homeopathic nasal mist that stimulates the body's natural ability to relieve symptoms. Goodbye congestion and disgusting post-nasal drip! (Hi, I'm super sexy in spring what with my drippy nose, n'at.)
It's one of the only preservative free nasal decongestants for nasal allergies available, and it's chemical free, so I don't have to worry about rebound effects or reliance. Similasan Nasal Allergy Relief is available at Walgreens and all major online retailers.
I'M READY FOR SPRING! Bring on the flowers! Bring on the mulch! Bring on the pollen!

I'm getting ready for spring with some good-old fashioned spring cleaning ...this weekend! It's finally warming up enough to open the windows, so I can dust things thoroughly with enough ventilation to keep my own allergies from kicking up badly. Even so, I'll probably keep some relief on hand. I've tried a nasal mist before that didn't help much, but maybe I'll try Similasan if it works for you.
I can't imagine trying to navigate in a place where most of the roads have similar names... sounds like a nightmare!
To prepare for spring I go through all of our closets and donate items we no longer need or use.

I prepare for the spring by doing a lot of spring cleaning, de-cluttering and dusting. I also keep a lot of tissues on hand for our seasonal allergies.

Spring cleaning for me is to donate all the items to goodwill.
I am attempting to do my best to simplify everywhere I can. Less stuff hopefully will mean less work to maintain it and a happier me!
Lose some weight for summer!

I'm moving.
HAHAHAHA!
It pretty much already feels like spring here- I'm in DC and it hit 80 this week- so I'm realizing that I need to figure out where I put all my summer clothes when I moved here last fall. Like everyone else, cleaning. Enjoying having the windows open. :-) I also have some mild seasonal allergies but it doesn't look like there's anything by my window that I'm directly allergic to so hopefully I won't have breathing problems at night.
I'm allergic to Minnesota. It's really sad. :(
As for spring....I am planning on fun things to do with my long lovely luxurious spring evenings! Like drawing class! (you've seen me on Draw Something...I'd like to blame the fingers on the small screen but I actually just draw that poorly). And hockey spring league! Which is more fun than our winter season, because it's less stressful!

As a former Atlanian (is that what we're called?), I fully understand your plight. I moved there from Texas and was thoroughly confused when the directions to my new office read, "Turn on Peachtree Parkway, then turn left onto Peachtree Expressway, and end at South Old Peachtree". Drove me INSANE!
To prepare for spring, I'm going to attempt to plant a vegetable garden. And by "attempt to plant a vegetable garden" I mean have my husband dig out a raised bed, plant the vegetables, and do most of the watering/tending. I'll come in to play when it's time to harvest the bounty and take all the praise.
I usually don’t get allergy symptoms….until this year. Maybe I’m getting old? Maybe my body changed and I started to get all these allergy symptoms that I’m so not used to! I’m getting prepare for Spring season with a major clean up of my home and in serve for an allergy relief. Similasan sounds wonderful to try. Thank you for the information.

we're dragging out the outdoor toys this weekend and putting the swings back up on the swingset :)
We do what we can do in between soccer games. They take up almost evey weekend of our spring. This year we will need to buy a new liner for our pool. Not sure what happened until we pull the cover off, but the liner is sunk low inside the pool.
Spring cleaning!
Cleaning. Sorting. Organzing. Opening the windows! I love Spring.
ugh, SPRING <shaking fist in air>
last year I actually had allergy testing to see exactly what was making me so miserable. It's sweet gum. AHAHHAHAHAHAHA...they're inescapable around here so I'm basically doomed. I'm on a strict regimen of Zyrtex-D all spring (and fall). Gotta have the D too because otherwise my ears get fluid in them and it's super painful. oh the joys of spring.
I just ordered a raised double decker garden bed. Next up, to the nursery! (I do not attempt to grow things from seed- I leave that to the experts.)
I might just have to get some for my entire family. My son has had sinus allergies all of his life. He has been in sports all of his life so this is a problem. I will get some of this stuff and try to convince him to use it. Hopefully it will make baseball season much better for him.
Have a great week!
Jackie
Digging out the warm-weather clothes (near 80's here!) and planning for what to do with our front landscaping.
BTW - any chance commenting on this post will get Similisan earache relief stocked at any of my local grocery stores? Because they've been out for MONTHS. Nothing else, just the earache relief. Figured it was worth a shot.
I'm thinking about a fairy garden. No doing; just thinking at this point.
first, i am completely blown away by that photo of your garden. gorgeous!
secondly, i am not doing anything to get ready for spring. bam!
Cleaning out my closets and preparing my garden for planting!
Donating clothes and getting rid of things we no longer use. I also clean out our flower beds.

I just realized my son doesn't have any spring clothes, so I'm hitting up the consignment sales to get him a new wardrobe.
Apparently we've moved right into May or even June, so I think I missed my window of spring preparation. But I clean the windows and think about what to plant. Then I plant it. That is about it.
to prepare for spring I go through the house and clean and get rid of winter clothes

So far I've made a list of all the things I need to do, but have carefully avoided actually doing them.
we prepare by cleaning out closets

I recently planted some daffodils and tulips......They make me smile and see that spring/better weather is ahead. I also get on a walking kick because I am usually lacking the much needed vitamin D after the winter months
Since we actually live IN the burbs of Atlanta, we start taking Zyrtec and Claritin around March 1 to get ready for Spring! And, we buy lots of flowers so that we know it's working. :)
I really need to try this.
For spring ive been busy with cleaning and rearranging my bedroom . I want to have a bright and light look for summer and I think having a light bedroom set would Be more relaxing.
A new season means figuring out what clothes from last year still fit the kids. I made it through Juliana's room 2 weeks ago. The boys room needs to be tackled soon so I can figure out how many new clothes they need.
