Optimistic

The anticipation flows in waves. It peaks when a stray fluffy flake is spotted in the sky. It dives into a valley when temperatures climb the mountain of No Coat Required. Alexis has been waiting for months for another opportunity to go sledding, a chance to build a snowman, and a day filled with playing in the snow.

Years past, she has been spoiled. For as long as she can remember, there has been a major snowstorm that led to a day or two or ten of play.

January 2009

Somehow she knows that the Big Storm is late this year. We've had snow, but not enough to really embrace with reckless abandon.

December 2009--Two seasons out of one snow suit! RAWK!

When I picked her up from school today, she looked to the sky, eyes wide and hopeful, and asked, "Is this it?"

She wanted to know if the few flakes that were falling were indicative of the arrival of the Big Storm.

I don't know if they were, but she placed her sled at the ready. Just in case.

Bring it, Mother Nature. We're ready and waiting.

If it doesn't hit there, send Alexis down here. NC has been slammed....TWICE. Who knew that being a Southern Belle meant mastering sled skills.

Oh my goodness, that is so precious! I love the amount of joy that is painted across her face!! (The puppy is pretty cute too).

Alas, you/she lives where snow is cyclical. I remember snowbanks over my head when I was walking home from grade school as a wee one in (I think!) 1962; major disappoinment with 1/8 inch of snow in 1966 (after frantic predictions of school closings by the channel 2 TV weather guy); then some pleasing falls in the '70's (mid-70's in particular, 1977 I think), then pretty much nothing in the 80s, then the Blizzard of 93 when we went through 3 snow shovels and came out the other side bereft of shoveling juju), then not much in the 2000's, and then holy sh~@ February 2010 where I moved roughly 17,500 pounds of snow in 2 sessions.

Who knows what we'll see this year....!

Well if The Big Snow is magical enough to get her dad to smile *on camera*, no wonder she's impatient!

I'm from the midstate and we got quite a bit of snow here... at least enough for sledding. Hope you are having a nice snow day!

SO CUTE. That top pic is priceless. Hope you got "enough" snow for her! :)

Being optimistic is awesome. No better way to bring on the awesome storm. We had ours :D

We've been waiting too...four inches today. I guess that's sort of exciting....but when I was a kid I remember storms of more than a foot ... my kid has yet to have witnessed that.

Ours was a let down here. You guys got even more than we did. Even though they cancelled everything but that blasted, pointless basketball game.

Holy crap! That first picture was from January 2009?? I feel like you just posted that ... Time is flying way too fast!

I love all the snow talk because I feel like I can join in this year. Your sled looks a lot more officiatl than ours. I hope you get to have some snow fun.

It must be a sign of my advanced age, but this is the year that I'm officially over snow. Maybe it's because we've had white on the ground since Thanksgiving. I generally need a bit of a break between storms to fully enjoy it. Is it too much to ask for a thaw every now and then, like normal winters?

OMG, she's adorable - and that puppy!!! SO CUTE!!! Great shots!
